As an accessible part of Trekking in Nepal, the valley is ideal for travelers who want to enjoy nature, culture, and mountain scenery without traveling to Nepal's remote Himalayan regions.

Among the main Kathmandu Valley Hiking & Trekking packages are the Kathmandu Valley Trek, Kakani to Jhor Day Hiking, Champadevi Day Hike with Kirtipur Sightseeing, and Chandragiri Day Hike with Cable Car Return. The Kathmandu Valley Trek is a five-day journey from arrival to departure, combining comfortable accommodation with scenic walking through the hills surrounding Kathmandu.

The five-day trek offers a more comfortable style of travel, with five-star accommodation in Kathmandu and premium hotels and resorts at Chisapani, Nagarkot, and Dhulikhel. Breakfast and dinner are provided at the hotels and resorts, while lunch is enjoyed along the route at selected local tea shops, adding a pleasant local touch to the journey.

Kathmandu Valley Hiking & Trekking can be enjoyed throughout the year, with autumn, winter, and spring generally offering the most pleasant conditions and clearest Himalayan views. The combination of accessible trails, changing landscapes, cultural heritage, and convenient access from Kathmandu makes the valley suitable for a wide range of travelers.

Best Time for Kanchenjunga Region Trekking

The best seasons for most Kanchenjunga Region Trekking routes are spring and autumn, when the weather is generally more stable and mountain visibility is often excellent.

Spring, from March to May, brings warmer conditions at lower elevations, blooming rhododendrons, and good opportunities for clear mountain views. Autumn, from September to November, generally offers clear skies, dry trails, and excellent visibility across the eastern Himalayas.

The monsoon months from June to August bring heavy rainfall to eastern Nepal, making lower trails wet and some roads more difficult to travel. Winter, from December to February, brings cold temperatures and snow at higher elevations, particularly around the base camps and high mountain passes. The most suitable season ultimately depends on the route, elevation, and conditions expected during your trek.

Permits for Kanchenjunga Region Trekking

Kanchenjunga is a restricted trekking area, and trekkers require the applicable Restricted Area Permit (RAP) as well as the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Permit (KCAP).

Permit requirements, fees, group regulations, and trekking rules may vary according to current regulations and the selected route. Checking the requirements before departure helps ensure that all necessary permits are arranged for a smooth journey into the Kanchenjunga region.

Accommodation & Food

Mountain King Treks has created four popular hiking and trekking experiences in Kathmandu Valley. Three are day hikes, while the Kathmandu Valley Trek is a 5-day journey from arrival to departure, designed as a comfortable luxury trekking experience.

The 5-day Kathmandu Valley Trek includes a 5-star hotel in Kathmandu on a twin-sharing basis with breakfast (BB), along with premium hotels and resorts in Chisapani, Nagarkot, and Dhulikhel. Breakfast and dinner are served at the hotels and resorts, while lunch is arranged along the trail at selected local restaurants and traditional tea shops.

The three day-hiking packages do not require overnight accommodation and include a packed lunch and a bottle of drinking water for the day's journey. This gives travelers a simple and convenient way to enjoy the valley's nature, culture, and scenic trails.

Difficulty Level

Kathmandu Valley Hiking & Trekking ranges from easy day hikes to moderate multi-day walks. Routes such as Champadevi, Chandragiri, and Kakani can suit travelers with average fitness, while longer itineraries require greater endurance. The appropriate route depends on your fitness, walking experience, and available time.

Transportation

Most hiking destinations around Kathmandu can be reached by private vehicle or local transportation, with travel times depending on the selected trailhead and road conditions. Some itineraries also include cable-car transportation, particularly around Chandragiri. Transportation arrangements depend on the selected hiking or trekking package.

Nature, Wildlife & Responsible Hiking

The hills and forests surrounding Kathmandu provide a natural escape from the city, with opportunities to experience birdlife, vegetation, and peaceful forest environments. The Kathmandu Valley Nature & Wildlife Guide provides further information about the valley's forests, wildlife, biodiversity, and natural landscapes.

Trekkers should respect local communities, religious sites, wildlife, and natural surroundings. Staying on established trails, reducing waste, avoiding unnecessary plastic, and supporting local businesses help protect Kathmandu Valley's natural and cultural heritage.
