As the founder of Mountain King Treks & Expedition Pvt. Ltd., Govinda Prasad Sapkota has dedicated more than three decades to exploring, guiding, and sharing the wonders of the Himalayas. Throughout his long Himalayan career, he has experienced countless memorable journeys, but one mysterious encounter during the Sherpani Col and Amphu Lapcha Pass Trek in 1996 remains one of the most unforgettable moments of his mountain life.

This challenging expedition began from Tumlingtar in Sankhuwasabha and crossed one of the most remote and demanding sections of eastern Nepal before reaching the Khumbu region. Today, this route forms part of the Great Himalayan Trail (GHT Nepal High Route) and is recognized as one of Nepal’s most challenging high-altitude trekking routes, connecting the remote eastern Himalayas with the Everest region.

At that time, I was leading a large international expedition team through this remote Himalayan wilderness. The group included 15 Swiss trekkers along with experienced porters, kitchen crew, and Sherpa support staff. Altogether, our expedition team consisted of more than 50 members. Traveling through such a remote and isolated mountain environment required careful planning, strong teamwork, and extensive Himalayan experience.

One early morning, we began our journey from Swiss Base Camp toward Sherpani Col. The weather was calm, and the full moon provided enough natural light to clearly follow the trail without using flashlights. As the expedition leader, I was walking at the front of the group, carefully observing the route and surrounding landscape, while the trekkers and support team followed behind.

During this quiet morning journey, I noticed something unusual at a distance from the trail. In the vast and peaceful Himalayan landscape, I saw what appeared to be a human-like figure moving in the mountainside. I watched carefully, trying to understand what I was seeing in that remote environment.

The moment lasted only around 15 seconds before the mysterious figure disappeared from my sight.

Having spent many years in the Himalayas, I have experienced many challenging and extraordinary situations. However, this particular moment created a deep impression that has remained with me ever since. It was a mixture of curiosity, surprise, and respect for the mysteries that continue to surround the world's highest mountains.

As the leader responsible for the safety, comfort, and confidence of my team, I remained calm and continued the journey professionally. I chose not to create unnecessary concern among the trekkers and focused on successfully guiding everyone through this challenging section of the route.

When the rest of the team arrived at the area, the figure was no longer visible. Later, I shared my experience with the Swiss trekking group. Some members found the possibility of a Yeti-related encounter fascinating, while others suggested that distance, lighting conditions, altitude, or the unique mountain environment could have influenced what I observed.

At that time, I felt completely well and experienced no difficulties related to altitude. Whatever the explanation may be, this mysterious moment remains one of the most remarkable memories of my Himalayan journey.

The Himalayas are not only a destination for adventure; they are also a place of ancient legends, cultural stories, and unforgettable personal experiences.
