Trip Overview

A bespoke trekking in nepal adventure.

The Bhimsen Thapa Memorial Trek in Nepal is a unique cultural and historical trekking route that connects the districts of Dhading and Gorkha through ancient trails, traditional villages, sacred sites, and landmarks associated with Nepal’s unification history. Unlike many commercial trekking routes, this journey focuses on Nepal’s rich heritage, rural lifestyle, and historical significance while still offering beautiful Himalayan scenery and authentic local experiences.

As part of the wider Trekking in Nepal experience, this heritage trail follows lesser-known paths linked to Bhimsen Thapa, Nepal’s first Prime Minister, whose ancestral roots are connected to Borlang in Gorkha. The trek provides a rare opportunity to explore important historical locations while experiencing the culture and daily life of Nepal’s mid-hill communities.

Situated within the broader Ganesh Himal Trekking Region, the route begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhadingbesi before trekking through peaceful villages, terraced farmlands, and forested hills. Along the way, trekkers visit the historic Jyamrung Durbar, the sacred Nirsingha Dham, and Borlang village, an important place connected to the legacy of Bhimsen Thapa.

The trek concludes in the historic town of Gorkha, home to the magnificent Gorkha Durbar, the former royal palace of King Prithvi Narayan Shah. Visitors can also explore the revered Gorakhkali Temple and Gorakhnath Temple, two of Nepal’s most important religious and historical landmarks. Throughout the journey, trekkers enjoy views of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Himalchuli, Buddha Himal, and surrounding mountain ranges.

Accommodation along the route follows the traditional Tea House Trekking in Nepal system, providing comfortable stays in local lodges and guesthouses while offering genuine Nepalese hospitality and local cuisine.

For travelers seeking a meaningful alternative to Nepal’s more crowded trekking routes, the Bhimsen Thapa Memorial Trek offers a perfect combination of history, culture, spirituality, mountain scenery, and authentic village life.
