A bespoke trekking in nepal adventure.
The Bhimsen Thapa Memorial Trek is a unique cultural and historical trekking route in Nepal that connects the districts of Dhading and Gorkha through ancient trails, traditional villages, sacred sites, and landmarks associated with Nepal's rich history. Unlike many commercial trekking routes, this journey focuses on heritage, culture, spirituality, and authentic rural life while offering beautiful Himalayan scenery and meaningful historical experiences.
As part of the wider Trekking in Nepal experience, this heritage trail follows lesser-known paths linked to Bhimsen Thapa, Nepal's first Prime Minister and one of the country's most influential historical figures. His ancestral roots are connected to Borlang in Gorkha, making this trek a fascinating journey through places that reflect his legacy and contribution to Nepal's history. The route provides a rare opportunity to combine cultural exploration with an immersive experience of traditional village life in Nepal's mid-hill region.
Situated within the broader Ganesh Himal Trekking Region, the trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhadingbesi before following traditional foot trails through peaceful villages, terraced farmlands, forested hills, and culturally significant settlements. Along the way, trekkers visit the historic Jyamrung Durbar, an important heritage site that reflects the region's historical importance, and the sacred Nirsingha Dham, a revered pilgrimage destination surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. These landmarks provide valuable insight into the cultural and spiritual traditions that have shaped local communities for generations.
One of the most memorable highlights of the trek is a visit to Borlang Village, the ancestral home associated with Bhimsen Thapa. Here, travelers can learn about the life and legacy of the legendary statesman while experiencing the warm hospitality, traditions, and daily lifestyle of the local people. The peaceful countryside setting, traditional architecture, and cultural atmosphere make Borlang one of the most rewarding stops along the route.
The trek concludes in the historic town of Gorkha, home to the magnificent Gorkha Durbar, the former royal palace of King Prithvi Narayan Shah and one of Nepal's most important historical monuments. Visitors can also explore the sacred Gorakhkali Temple and Gorakhnath Temple, both of which hold great religious and cultural significance. Throughout the journey, trekkers enjoy impressive views of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Himalchuli, Buddha Himal, and the surrounding Himalayan ranges.
This 7-day heritage journey is operated by Mountain King Treks as a complete full-board package from arrival in Kathmandu until final departure. The trip includes airport transfers, accommodation, transportation, meals, permits, professional guides, porter services, and all necessary logistical support throughout the trek.
