Your itinerary.
Your Annapurna Circuit Short Trek Nepal adventure begins early in the morning with a scenic drive from Kathmandu toward the Annapurna region. Leaving the Kathmandu Valley behind, the journey follows the Prithvi Highway alongside the Trishuli and Marsyangdi Rivers, passing through picturesque countryside, terraced farmlands, traditional villages, and beautiful river valleys.
After several hours of driving, you arrive at Besisahar, the gateway to the Annapurna Circuit. Following a short break, the journey continues by local sharing jeep along the rugged mountain road that follows the Marsyangdi River deep into the Himalayas. As the road climbs higher, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic with towering cliffs, waterfalls, dense pine forests, and spectacular mountain views.
Passing through villages such as Bhulbhule, Jagat, Dharapani, and Timang, you gradually enter the upper Annapurna region where Tibetan-influenced culture begins to appear. On clear days, magnificent views of Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II, and other surrounding peaks accompany the drive. By late afternoon, you arrive in Chame, the administrative center of Manang District, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and beautiful pine forests.
Overnight at a teahouse in Chame.
After breakfast, the trek begins with a gradual ascent through fragrant pine and fir forests alongside the Marsyangdi River. The trail offers excellent views of Lamjung Himal and Annapurna II while passing through small settlements and traditional mountain landscapes.
One of today's highlights is crossing several suspension bridges and walking beneath dramatic rock cliffs that rise high above the valley floor. As the trail climbs steadily, the surrounding scenery becomes more alpine and rugged. The famous Paungda Danda Rock Face, one of the largest rock formations in Nepal, dominates the skyline and creates an unforgettable backdrop.
Approaching Pisang, the valley opens dramatically, revealing breathtaking views of Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, Pisang Peak, and surrounding Himalayan giants. Instead of staying in Lower Pisang, the route continues uphill to Upper Pisang, a beautiful traditional village known for its Tibetan-style houses, ancient monastery, and panoramic mountain scenery.
The higher position of Upper Pisang provides one of the finest viewpoints on the entire Annapurna Circuit and offers an excellent introduction to the unique culture of the Manang region.
Overnight at a teahouse in Upper Pisang.
Today follows the spectacular upper trail to Manang, widely regarded as one of the most scenic sections of the Annapurna Circuit. After breakfast, the trail climbs gradually through traditional villages, prayer walls, and Buddhist chortens while offering magnificent panoramic views of the Annapurna range.
Passing through the villages of Ghyaru and Ngawal, trekkers enjoy breathtaking vistas of Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak, and Pisang Peak. The landscape begins to change noticeably as dense forests give way to open alpine terrain and dry high-altitude valleys influenced by the rain-shadow effect of the Himalayas.
Along the route, you encounter ancient monasteries, colorful prayer flags, and local people maintaining centuries-old traditions. The cultural atmosphere becomes increasingly Tibetan in character as you approach Manang.
After joining the lower trail near Mungji, a gentle walk leads into the beautiful village of Manang. Surrounded by some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Nepal, Manang serves as an important acclimatization center for trekkers preparing to cross Thorong La Pass.
Overnight at a teahouse in Manang.
Today is dedicated to acclimatization, allowing your body to adjust to the increasing altitude before continuing higher into the Himalayas. Proper acclimatization significantly improves safety and comfort while preparing for the crossing of Thorong La Pass.
After breakfast, you may choose from several optional hikes around the Manang Valley. Popular excursions include Gangapurna Lake, Gangapurna Glacier Viewpoint, Bhojo Gompa, or higher viewpoints overlooking the entire valley. These short hikes provide spectacular mountain panoramas while helping the body adapt to thinner air.
Throughout the day, trekkers can explore the traditional village of Manang, visit local bakeries and cafés, learn about Himalayan culture, or simply relax while enjoying the magnificent surroundings. The village offers outstanding views of Annapurna III, Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak, Chulu East, and Chulu West.
This important rest day not only improves acclimatization but also provides an opportunity to fully appreciate the beauty and culture of one of the Annapurna region's most iconic mountain settlements.
Overnight at a teahouse in Manang.
Leaving Manang behind, the trail gradually ascends into a more remote and rugged alpine environment. The vegetation becomes sparse as the landscape transitions from high mountain valley to open grazing terrain used by local yak herders.
The route passes through small seasonal settlements and follows a gentle climb above the Marsyangdi Valley. Magnificent views of Annapurna III, Gangapurna, Chulu Peaks, and surrounding snow-covered mountains accompany the trek throughout the day.
As the altitude increases, the atmosphere becomes noticeably more dramatic and Himalayan. Herds of yaks and blue sheep are sometimes seen grazing on the alpine slopes, while towering peaks dominate the skyline in every direction.
After several hours of gradual climbing, you arrive at Yak Kharka, a small high-altitude settlement surrounded by open mountain scenery. The peaceful setting provides an ideal place to rest and continue acclimatization before ascending toward Thorong Phedi and the challenging crossing of Thorong La Pass.
Overnight at a teahouse in Yak Kharka.
After breakfast, the trail gradually ascends through rugged alpine terrain toward the base of Thorong La Pass. Leaving Yak Kharka behind, the route traverses barren mountain slopes and crosses several small streams while offering increasingly dramatic views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
The trail continues to Ledar before reaching a suspension bridge that crosses the Jarsang Khola. From here, a steady climb leads to Thorong Phedi, the final major stopping point before the pass. Thorong Phedi, meaning "foot of the hill," sits beneath the towering slopes of Thorong La and serves as an important resting place for trekkers preparing for the next day's crossing.
Depending on weather conditions, fitness level, and guide recommendation, trekkers may continue for approximately one hour to High Camp. This higher overnight stop shortens the following day's ascent and provides spectacular mountain views.
The remainder of the afternoon is spent resting, hydrating, and preparing for the early morning departure toward Thorong La Pass.
Overnight at a teahouse in Thorong Phedi or High Camp.
Today is the most challenging and rewarding day of the entire trek. An early pre-dawn start allows sufficient time to reach Thorong La Pass while weather conditions are generally at their best.
The ascent follows a gradual but demanding trail through high-altitude terrain surrounded by spectacular Himalayan scenery. As the sun rises over the mountains, breathtaking views unfold across the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. After several hours of climbing, you reach the summit of Thorong La Pass, the highest point of the trek at 5,416 meters.
From the pass, trekkers are rewarded with unforgettable panoramic views of the Annapurna Himalayas, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Tilicho Peak, Yakawa Kang, and countless surrounding peaks stretching across the horizon. Colorful prayer flags flutter in the mountain wind, marking this remarkable achievement.
After celebrating at the pass, the trail descends into the Mustang region through dramatic high-altitude desert landscapes. The scenery changes dramatically as the route enters the rain-shadow area north of the Annapurna range.
The descent eventually leads to Muktinath, one of Nepal's most sacred pilgrimage destinations for both Hindus and Buddhists. Many trekkers visit the famous Muktinath Temple, eternal flame, and sacred water spouts before resting for the evening.
Overnight at a teahouse in Muktinath.
After breakfast, the journey descends from the high Himalayas of Mustang and follows the scenic Kali Gandaki Valley toward Pokhara. Traveling by bus through some of Nepal's most dramatic mountain landscapes, the route passes traditional Thakali settlements including Jomsom, Marpha, Tukuche, Ghasa, and Tatopani, each rich in Himalayan culture and history.
Along the way, enjoy spectacular views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna I, and surrounding snow-capped peaks while driving through the world-famous Kali Gandaki Gorge, recognized as the deepest gorge on Earth. The route also passes the magnificent Rupse Waterfall, one of Nepal's most beautiful waterfalls, where the mountain river plunges dramatically through a narrow rocky canyon.
As the journey continues south, the landscape gradually changes from the rugged high-altitude deserts of Mustang to lush forests, terraced hillsides, fertile farmland, and traditional villages. This scenic drive showcases the remarkable diversity that makes the Annapurna region one of the most rewarding destinations for Trekking in Nepal.
Upon arrival in Pokhara, you can relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Nepal's beautiful lakeside city. The remainder of the day is free to explore Lakeside Pokhara, stroll along the shores of Phewa Lake, enjoy local cafés and restaurants, or simply unwind after completing your Himalayan adventure.
Overnight at a hotel in Pokhara on Bed & Breakfast (BB) basis.
After breakfast, the return journey begins with a scenic drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu. Following the Prithvi Highway, the route passes alongside beautiful river valleys, terraced hillsides, traditional villages, and picturesque countryside landscapes.
The drive offers a final opportunity to enjoy Nepal's diverse scenery while reflecting on the incredible experiences of the past days, from the beautiful Manang Valley and the challenging crossing of Thorong La Pass (5,416m) to the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath and the spectacular Himalayan views of the Annapurna region.
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will have some free time to relax or explore the city. In the evening, Mountain King Treks hosts a special farewell dinner with cultural hospitality, providing a memorable conclusion to your Himalayan adventure. Enjoy traditional Nepali cuisine while celebrating your successful journey through one of Nepal's most iconic trekking regions.
