Upper Mustang Overland Tour

After breakfast, your day begins with a guided cultural tour of some of Kathmandu’s most iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The tour covers:

• Kathmandu Durbar Square – A historic palace complex showcasing intricate woodwork, ancient temples, and the living goddess Kumari’s residence.
• Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple) – A sacred Buddhist site on a hilltop offering panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley.
• Pashupatinath Temple – The holiest Hindu temple in Nepal, situated on the banks of the Bagmati River, where you can witness Hindu rituals and cremation ceremonies.
• Boudhanath Stupa – One of the largest stupas in the world and a center of Tibetan Buddhist culture in Nepal.

After a full day of exploration, you return to your hotel and prepare for the overland journey ahead.

After breakfast, you begin the scenic drive toward Bandipur, with an en-route visit to Gorkha, the birthplace of King Prithvi Narayan Shah, who unified Nepal in the 18th century.

In Gorkha, you will explore:

• Gorkha Durbar – A historic palace situated atop a hill, offering stunning views and rich history.
• Gorakhnath & Gorakali Temples – Sacred Hindu sites with spiritual significance for devotees.

After sightseeing, you continue to Bandipur, a beautifully preserved hilltop town known for its Newari culture, traditional architecture, and breathtaking Himalayan views. The evening is free to stroll through the charming streets and enjoy the tranquil ambiance of this historic town.

Early in the morning, you can take a short walk around Bandipur to admire the Himalayan sunrise and visit the traditional Newari houses, temples, and local markets.

After breakfast, the drive continues toward Tatopani, passing through Pokhara and Beni. Upon arrival, you check into the hotel and take some time to relax. Later, you will visit the Tatopani Natural Hot Spring, where you can take a soothing dip in the warm waters believed to have therapeutic benefits for the body and mind.

After breakfast, the journey continues along the Kali Gandaki River Gorge, one of the deepest gorges in the world. Along the way, you visit Marpha Village, a picturesque settlement famous for its apple orchards, traditional Thakali culture, and white-washed houses with stone-paved alleys.

You then continue toward Kagbeni, the gateway to Upper Mustang. In the late afternoon, you will explore the medieval Kagbeni village, visit the red-walled Kag Chode Monastery, and walk along the windswept trails overlooking the Kali Gandaki River.

After breakfast, you set out on an exciting drive toward Ghami, passing through several scenic villages, including Tangbe, Chhusang, Chele, Samar, Syangbochen, and Ghiling. These settlements offer breathtaking views of rugged cliffs, ancient caves, and Tibetan-style houses with prayer flags fluttering in the wind.

Upon reaching Ghami, you check into a local lodge and then explore the village and its historic Ghami Monastery, which holds great religious significance in the region.

The day begins with a drive through the colorful cliffs of Dhakmar, a spectacular landscape unique to the Upper Mustang region. You then proceed to Charang, where you visit:

• Charang Monastery – A historically significant Buddhist monastery with a collection of ancient murals and scriptures.
• White Palace of Charang – A 400-year-old palace that reflects the history of the Mustang kingdom.

After lunch, the journey continues with a visit to Logekhar Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in Upper Mustang. From here, you drive to Lo Manthang, the walled capital of the former Mustang Kingdom.

After an early breakfast, you embark on a half-day exploration of Chhoser, home to fascinating caves and monasteries carved into the cliffs. These ancient dwellings were used by monks and locals for centuries.

On the way back, you visit:

• Namgyal Monastery – A significant religious site for Mustang’s Buddhist community.
• Thinkar Village – A culturally rich settlement with breathtaking views of the Mustang region.

After lunch in Lo Manthang, you explore the ancient walled city, visiting its historic monasteries and the King’s Palace, where the former royal family of Mustang resided.

You leave Lo Manthang and begin the drive toward Muktinath, one of the holiest pilgrimage sites for both Hindus and Buddhists. The temple is famous for:

• The Eternal Flame – A natural gas flame that has been burning for centuries.
• 108 Water Spouts – Pilgrims bathe under these sacred waters as part of their religious rituals.

After a spiritual visit, you check into a lodge and enjoy the peaceful ambiance of Muktinath.

Early in the morning, you revisit Muktinath Temple to witness the sunrise and morning prayers. After breakfast, you begin the long scenic drive back to Pokhara, passing through Jomsom, Marpha, and Tatopani.

Upon reaching Pokhara, you check into your hotel and can spend the evening relaxing by Phewa Lake or exploring the vibrant lakeside area.

After breakfast, you drive back to Kathmandu, enjoying the scenic journey through hills, rivers, and villages. Upon arrival, you check into your hotel and have free time for last-minute shopping or sightseeing.

In the evening, you will be treated to a farewell dinner with a traditional Nepali cultural program, celebrating the successful completion of your Upper Mustang adventure.

After breakfast, our representative will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure flight. You leave Nepal with unforgettable memories of the Mustang region’s breathtaking landscapes, ancient monasteries, and unique Tibetan-influenced culture
