Your real Himalayan adventure begins today! After an early breakfast in Pokhara, we set off on a scenic drive by private vehicle toward Nayapul, the traditional gateway to the Annapurna trekking region. The drive takes about 1.5 hours as we leave the serene lakeside city behind and head north through terraced farmlands and quaint villages. The road gradually winds higher along the Modi Khola River, offering a glimpse into the lush valleys and forested slopes of the lower Annapurna range.
Upon reaching Nayapul (1,070 m), we meet our trekking crew and begin the first day on foot. The trail starts gently, following the course of the Modi Khola through Birethanti and crossing suspension bridges, bamboo groves, and scattered hamlets. The air is fresh, and the sound of flowing water and chirping birds welcomes you into the Himalayan rhythm.
As we leave the lower valley, the trail gradually begins to climb. We ascend steadily through charming villages like Syauli Bazaar, stopping for tea and rest as needed. The uphill trail is lined with lush greenery, stone staircases, and scenes of rural life—buffaloes plowing rice paddies, children playing, and villagers tending their fields.
By mid-afternoon, we reach the picturesque Gurung village of Ghandruk (1,940 m), one of the largest and most culturally rich settlements in the region. Upon arrival, take time to rest and absorb the dramatic mountain views: Machapuchare (Fishtail), Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli dominate the skyline, glowing golden at sunset.
Ghandruk is not just a beautiful village—it is a cultural gem. You may stroll through the stone-paved lanes, visit the local Gurung Museum, and enjoy warm hospitality and hearty meals from the local teahouse. The village’s traditional architecture and panoramic vistas make it a perfect overnight stop.

🎯 Highlights: First trekking day, suspension bridges, scenic Gurung village, stunning views of Annapurna South and Machapuchare
After a peaceful night in Ghandruk with the towering peaks watching over, we start our day with a warm breakfast and steaming tea as the sun illuminates Annapurna South (7,219 m) and Machapuchare (6,993 m) with fiery morning hues. Today’s trail leads us deeper into the heart of the Annapurna Conservation Area, ascending into rhododendron and oak forests filled with birdsong and Himalayan magic.
Leaving behind the last stone houses of Ghandruk, the trail begins a steady climb through a dense canopy of trees, moss-draped branches, and fern-lined pathways. In spring, this forest is a burst of color, with vibrant rhododendron blooms in red, pink, and white—Nepal’s national flower. Even outside the bloom season, the forest is alive with the sound of chirping warblers, laughing thrushes, and the occasional barking deer rustling in the undergrowth.
The stone-paved trail winds upward along ridges and streams, and although the walking distance is relatively short, the steady uphill demands a relaxed pace. We take breaks at scenic rest points with clearings that open up to astonishing views of Hiunchuli, Annapurna III, and the steep gorge below.
By early afternoon, we reach Tadapani (2,630 m), a beautiful settlement perched on a forested ridge. The name Tadapani means “far water” in Nepali—so named because the village once had to fetch its water from a distant spring. Now it’s known for its panoramic Himalayan views, peaceful forest surroundings, and as a quiet retreat before the next day's adventure.
After checking into our teahouse, enjoy hot tea with cookies and watch the sunset paint the snow peaks in brilliant golds and purples. At night, the sky above Tadapani is a canvas of stars—clear and mesmerizing.
