Overview
The Badhimalika Trek is one of Nepal’s most sacred, scenic, and culturally immersive highland pilgrimages, taking you deep into the untouched landscapes of the Far-Western Himalayas, where ancient legends live on, and the rhythm of daily life still follows the traditions of the ancestors. Rising to a height of 3,800 meters, the Badhimalika Temple, perched atop a windy ridge, is dedicated to Goddess Bhagwati (Malika Devi) — a fierce and protective deity worshipped by Hindus from across Nepal and India.
Your journey begins in Kathmandu, Nepal’s vibrant cultural capital, with a guided city tour of its UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. From there, a flight to Dhangadhi and an overland jeep ride leads you to the hill town of Martadi, the district headquarters of Bajura — your gateway to the highlands.
From Jadanga, the trek follows an ancient pilgrimage route that winds through verdant forests, high meadows, river crossings, and sacred confluences. You’ll walk through dense rhododendron and oak forests, where the air is alive with the sounds of birds and the fragrance of wild herbs. You’ll camp at peaceful spots like Budha Krodh, Bhitachhina, and the holy site of Triveni, where three rivers meet, believed to be the bathing place of gods and sages.
The region is part of the Kailash Sacred Landscape and borders Khadka Conservation Zone, hosting rare species such as the Himalayan monal (danphe), musk deer, Himalayan black bear, red fox, mountain goats, and if lucky, even the elusive snow leopard. The flora includes medicinal herbs like yarshagumba, kutki, and jatamasi, which are harvested seasonally by local communities.
The people of this region, mostly Chhetris, Brahmins, and Dalits, live in remote villages with stone-roofed homes, and their lifestyle is deeply connected to subsistence farming, animal herding, and spiritual traditions. The culture is rich with folk songs, oral storytelling, and age-old customs tied to worship of local deities, seasonal festivals, and respect for nature.
At the heart of the trek lies the sacred Badhimalika Temple, believed to be one of the Shakti Peethas — holy sites where the body parts of Goddess Sati fell. The legend tells that when Shiva roamed the sky carrying Sati’s body, her left shoulder fell here. Today, this windswept ridge attracts thousands during Janai Purnima, when pilgrims gather from across the nation to offer prayers, shave their heads, and purify their souls. Even in the quiet season, the aura of devotion lingers in the air.
The Badhimalika Trek is not just a physical journey — it is a soulful experience that weaves together history, mythology, biodiversity, and mountain wilderness. With no commercial infrastructure beyond Jadanga, this is a true off-the-beaten-path adventure, supported by Mountain King Treks’ expert guides, cooks, porters, and well-planned logistics combining basic lodge stays with fully-equipped wilderness camping.
Trekking in this remote corner of Nepal provides a rare chance to disconnect from modern life and reconnect with something deeper — whether it’s the silence of the meadows, the whisper of pine forests, the smile of a local herder, or the powerful presence of Malika Devi watching over the land.
This is a trek for those who seek not just mountains, but meaning.

🍽️ Meals: Breakfast only (B)
After breakfast at the hotel, today is dedicated to discovering the historical and cultural wonders of Kathmandu Valley, guided by a licensed city tour expert from Mountain King Treks.
Your day begins with a visit to the majestic Kathmandu Durbar Square, once the royal palace of the Malla kings, rich with centuries-old temples, courtyards, and wood carvings that showcase traditional Newari craftsmanship. From here, you’ll proceed to the Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple, perched on a hilltop with panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley — a blend of Buddhist symbolism and Hindu influence.
Next, you'll explore Pashupatinath Temple, the most sacred Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, where the spirituality of life and death is seen through open-air cremations by the Bagmati River and the ancient rituals of sadhus and pilgrims. Your final stop is the serene Boudhanath Stupa, a grand dome-shaped shrine and the spiritual heart of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal. The scent of butter lamps, chanting monks, and spinning prayer wheels offer a peaceful conclusion to the day.
By late afternoon, you'll return to your hotel, where you can relax or prepare for the next day’s flight to Dhangadhi. This day not only connects you with Nepal’s ancient past but prepares your soul for the deeply spiritual terrain of Badhimalika.

🍽️ Meals: Breakfast only (B)
After an early breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the domestic terminal of Kathmandu Airport for a scenic flight to the flatlands of Dhangadhi, located in far-western Nepal. The short flight offers a stunning contrast—from the hills and valleys of Kathmandu to the subtropical plains of the Terai region.
Upon landing at Dhangadhi Airport, you’ll be welcomed by our regional staff and begin a long but fascinating overland journey toward Martadi, the district headquarters of Bajura. This drive is a real transition—from bustling towns to remote mountain roads—passing through beautiful Mid-Hill landscapes, river valleys, terraced fields, and scattered villages.
Though the road conditions are rough and bumpy in parts, the experience is filled with rural charm and glimpses of remote life in western Nepal. As you ascend gradually toward Martadi (1,900 m), the terrain becomes more mountainous and cooler, with views of green ridges and distant peaks.
By evening, you’ll reach Martadi, where your trek officially begins tomorrow. Tonight, you’ll stay in a basic lodge or tented accommodation, and your support staff will arrange all logistics for the trekking days ahead.

🍽️ Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (BLD)
Your trekking journey begins today! After a nourishing breakfast, you leave behind the bustling Martadi bazaar and set off into the rugged hills of Bajura. The trail ascends gradually through remote highland villages, oak and rhododendron forests, and scattered terraced fields. The region is known for its Khas and Chhetri communities, and along the way, you may witness local life: children walking to school in traditional dress, women carrying loads of firewood, or elders spinning wool by hand.
The landscape is serene and untouched, with views of river gorges and rolling green hills stretching in every direction. As you climb higher, the air becomes cooler and purer. You’ll reach Jadanga, a small settlement surrounded by natural beauty and inhabited by warm-hearted villagers who rarely see foreign trekkers. From this altitude, the transition toward alpine terrain begins, and the stars shine brilliantly in the clear mountain sky.
Your tents will be ready by the time you arrive. The kitchen team will prepare hot tea and a hearty dinner, while you relax and absorb the tranquility of western Nepal's hidden trails.
📍Overnight at tented camp in Jadanga (2,400 m)
🍽️ Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (BLD)
After morning tea and a warm breakfast served by our friendly camp crew, today’s trek ascends through increasingly wild and pristine landscapes. You follow a scenic trail that weaves through alpine forests, home to wild herbs, chirping birds, and occasionally the bark of a Himalayan musk deer in the distance. The path gains elevation gradually, offering beautiful views of the surrounding ridges, cloud-hugged valleys, and far-off snow peaks.
As you trek deeper into the wilderness, you’ll notice a shift in vegetation—from lush forests to scattered juniper, dwarf rhododendron, and open meadows grazed by mountain goats and yaks. You may also see local herders who seasonally migrate with their livestock, living in small stone huts far from modern life.
Today’s destination is Budha Krodh, a calm campsite near a water source, offering great views and solitude. As you reach the campsite, you’ll be welcomed with afternoon tea and snacks. In the evening, enjoy a freshly prepared dinner under the clear mountain skies.
📍Overnight at tented camp in Budha Krodh (2,900 m)
🍽️ Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (BLD)
After a hearty breakfast in the quiet of Budha Krodh, today’s trail leads you higher into more mystical terrain. The path meanders through sub-alpine forests, open pastures, and ridge trails, offering glimpses of hidden valleys below and distant snow-clad mountains. You may come across grazing yaks and wild goats, as well as herbal plant zones rich in Himalayan flora like jatamansi and ban lasun (wild garlic).
Midway through the day, you’ll notice colorful prayer flags and stone shrines, signifying your approach to one of the most sacred spots on the trek. The destination today is Triveni, a spiritually important confluence of three rivers and a traditional pilgrimage site. According to local belief, Triveni is blessed by ancient sages, and every year thousands of pilgrims gather here during Janai Purnima to bathe in the holy waters and pay homage.
You’ll camp in the sacred surroundings of Triveni, with breathtaking mountain views and an atmosphere filled with peace and reverence. After tea and snacks, enjoy a warm evening meal and prepare for tomorrow’s highlight—your journey to Badhimalika Temple.
📍Overnight at tented camp in Triveni (3,300 m)
🍽️ Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (BLD)
Today is the spiritual heart of the trek and perhaps the most awaited moment—your visit to the revered Badhimalika Temple, nestled on a high ridge at 4,200 meters. After an early breakfast, you begin a steep but rewarding ascent, following a sacred route trodden by thousands of pilgrims for centuries.
The landscape is dramatic—rolling alpine meadows, vast skies, and distant peaks stretching to the horizon. As you climb higher, prayer flags flutter in the wind, and the energy of the mountain becomes palpable. At the top lies Badhimalika Temple, dedicated to Goddess Bhagwati, believed to be a manifestation of divine Shakti. This is one of the most powerful and lesser-visited Hindu pilgrimage sites in Nepal.
Here, you will have time to pay your respects, enjoy quiet reflection, or simply soak in the panoramic views of Api and Saipal ranges and the surrounding highlands. It’s a moment of profound serenity.
After spending time at the temple and taking blessings, you’ll descend back to Triveni, where hot drinks and a warm lunch will await. The evening is spent in restful silence or sharing reflections with fellow trekkers under the stars.
📍Overnight at tented camp in Triveni (3,300 m)
🍽️ Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (BLD)
After breakfast amidst the serene and spiritual energy of Triveni, you begin your descent toward the lower valleys. Today’s trail takes you along a different route, unfolding a new side of the Badhimalika region. The path winds through broad yak pastures, subalpine forests, and clusters of remote stone huts where local herders live with their livestock during the summer months.
As you descend gradually, the weather becomes warmer and the landscape more fertile. You'll pass through peaceful hillsides filled with medicinal herbs, wildflowers, and birdlife, and if lucky, spot Himalayan monals—the colorful national bird of Nepal—or even musk deer darting between the trees.
By afternoon, you’ll reach Dharmaghar, a small village tucked into the hillside. While basic, this settlement offers a cozy campsite, warm hospitality from locals, and an authentic glimpse of rural life in Nepal’s far-western highlands. The campsite tonight will be set up near the village, and our team will serve a hot dinner while you relax under the stars.
📍Overnight at tented camp in Dharmaghar (2,800 m)
🍽️ Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (BLD)
Today's walk continues through the enchanting and less-traveled paths of Bajura district. The trail descends through fertile valleys, mixed forests, and small hillside farms, offering panoramic views of terraced fields cascading down the mountains. You’ll pass through magar and chhetri settlements, where traditional mud-plastered houses stand proudly among cornfields and millet terraces.
Along the way, locals may greet you with warm smiles and curiosity—foreign trekkers are a rare sight in these parts. The experience is culturally rich and humbling, as you witness firsthand the simple, self-sufficient lifestyle of Nepal's hill people.
The day ends at Lamgada, a traditional highland village with basic infrastructure where Mountain King Treks will set up the tents for the night. Enjoy a warm drink while your crew prepares a nutritious dinner. With the soft sounds of the forest and a clear mountain night, it’s the perfect place to rest after another incredible day on the trail.
📍Overnight at tented camp in Lamgada (2,300 m)

After breakfast at the scenic village camp in Lamgada, you begin descending toward the mid-hills of Bajura. Today’s trail gradually leads you into warmer altitudes, winding through dense forests, cascading waterfalls, and terraced farmlands alive with seasonal crops. Along the way, you pass through a few rural settlements, where you can see local villagers harvesting, weaving, or spinning wool by hand.
You’ll feel the cultural transition as you leave behind the highland terrain and enter the transitional belt of far-western Nepal, where the air is thicker, the colors richer, and the pace of life remains timeless.
By afternoon, you arrive at Kolti, a significant town in Bajura and a hub for local trade and communication. It is also known for its small airstrip and is used by many pilgrims and travelers coming for the Badhimalika festival. Tonight, you’ll stay either in a basic lodge or set up camp just outside town, depending on availability and group preferences. You’ll have time to rest, explore the surroundings, and enjoy a warm, hearty meal prepared by the trekking kitchen.
