The Arun Valley to Everest Base Camp trek is a captivating journey through Nepal’s stunning natural landscapes. This trek takes you through some of the most picturesque areas in the Everest region, including beautiful natural vistas, cultural villages, and rewarding hikes. Highlights of this trek include breathtaking views of Everest, Amadablam, Makalu, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Thamserku. The trek officially begins at Kartiki Ghat, at an altitude of 315m.
Along the way, you will pass through traditional villages, lush forests, rivers, and significant cultural sites. The diverse flora and fauna, including over 625 bird species and 750 butterfly species, enhance the trekking experience. The trail also offers the opportunity to explore the Barun La Pass (4110m) and the Makalu-Barun National Park.

Trekking Equipment
The main essentials to bring are:
- Sturdy and Comfortable Hiking Boots: Essential for long treks, along with flip-flops for camp.
- Sleeping Bag: Choose one rated for -20°C for colder regions, depending on your accommodation.
- Daypack and Trekking Backpack: Include a dry sack and camera bag for protection.
- Clothing: Pack a few changes of clothes suitable for varying temperatures.
- For cold weather: hiking pants, thermals, gloves, neck warmer/scarf, beanie, a warm inner jacket, a windproof/waterproof outer jacket, and a down jacket.
- Water Supplies: Water purification supplies, a reusable water bottle, and a camelback water bladder.
- Sun Protection: Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, moisturizing skin cream, and lip balm.
- Snacks: Granola bars and other snacks.
- Hiking Sticks: One or two for added stability.
- Emergency Items: Waterproof case, fabric bandages (e.g., moleskin), a headlamp, altitude sickness and other medications.
- Photography: Camera and binoculars.
- Hygiene Supplies: Hand sanitizers, toilet paper, band-aids, and wet wipes.
- Batteries: Extra batteries (solar chargers recommended).
On popular trekking routes, everyday supplies such as toilet paper, soap, chocolate bars, and basic hiking gear can be purchased along the way. However, prices increase with elevation, so stock up on essentials lower down and opt for locally-produced items like fruit and biscuits. Maps are readily available in Nepal. For more challenging treks, crampons and ice axes may be required. Simpler crampons, which attach to shoes with a rubber ring, can be bought in the Thamel neighborhood, known as spikes, micro spikes, or chains.
