A Proud Event at Everest Base Camp – A Nepali Moment in Global Sustainable Tourism
In December 2016, Mountain King Treks and Expedition Pvt. Ltd. proudly led the Nepal chapter of an extraordinary global initiative known as the “One Star Restaurant at Everest Base Camp.” This journey wasn’t about lavish meals or hotel chains. It was about bringing people together through authentic food, cultural exchange, and a commitment to sustainable tourism.
The One Star Restaurant was a unique global movement that traveled across many countries, highlighting local cuisines, cultures, and traditions. And when the journey reached Nepal, it found its soul. Here, in the majestic lap of the Himalayas, the celebration of food took on a spiritual dimension.
As the founder of Mountain King Treks, I, Govinda Prasad Sapkota, had the immense honor of organizing and leading this incredible event. Having started my career as a humble trekking porter and working my way up over 35 years to become a trekking company owner, this moment was more than professional pride – it was personal.
This page is dedicated to the purpose behind the event: to promote Nepal’s cultural richness and invite the world to experience our country not through five-star hotels, but through the five-star hearts of its people. We believe in a deeper kind of tourism — one that uplifts local communities, preserves traditions, and welcomes every traveler with open arms.

Dining at 5,364 Meters – One Star Restaurant in the Himalayas
At 5,364 meters above sea level, beneath the awe-inspiring shadow of Mount Everest, a table was set — not with gold, but with love. On a cold December day, surrounded by snow, glaciers, and prayer flags, we hosted the One Star Restaurant at Everest Base Camp.
This wasn’t just a meal; it was a celebration of identity. Guests from around the world came to Taste Nepal, served by Nepali hands, cooked from Nepali soil, and shared with Nepali smiles.
🍽️ Menu Highlights:
- 🥩 Sukuti (spiced dried meat)
- 🔥 Choila with Chura (grilled meat with beaten rice)
- 🥔 Mustang Aloo
- 🥟 Yak Momos
- 🍜 Thukpa
- 🍚 Pulau
- 🌿 Gundruk-Bhatmas-Achar
- 🍛 Dal Bhat Tarkari
- 🥗 Fresh Green Salad
- 🥃 Homemade Aila (also known as Raksi or Airakh)
These dishes weren’t prepared for display. They were cooked with high-altitude heart, reflecting generations of taste, culture, and endurance. It was a moment where everyone sat side by side — travelers, chefs, porters, and locals — sharing more than a meal: sharing unity and joy.

Chefs, Guests, and Sherpas – Unity Through Food

My Voice, My Journey, My Invitation to the World
My name is Govinda Prasad Sapkota. I was born in the hills of Nepal and began my journey in the trekking world as a porter. Over the years, I walked every trail with dignity and dreams. I carried not just loads, but also stories, hopes, and the future of my family.
Today, as the founder of Mountain King Treks, I still carry something — but now it is responsibility, vision, and gratitude.
I believe that travel should be more than sightseeing. It should be heart-seeing. It should be respectful, cultural, educational, and soulful.
So whether you’re planning:
- A spiritual journey
- A food exploration
- A wildlife experience
- A historical and cultural tour
- Or an adventure trek
We are here to welcome you with open arms. Me, my family, and the entire Mountain King Treks team.
