Annapurna Circuit Trek

Today, you will embark on a guided cultural tour of Kathmandu, immersing yourself in its rich history and spiritual significance. Your day begins with a visit to Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple, which sits atop a hill offering panoramic views of the city. This ancient stupa is adorned with the all-seeing eyes of Buddha and is an important pilgrimage site.

Next, you will visit Pashupatinath Temple, Nepal’s most revered Hindu shrine located along the sacred Bagmati River. Here, you can observe the rituals performed by devotees and witness the traditional cremation ceremonies along the riverbanks.

From there, you will proceed to Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest stupas in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by Tibetan monasteries and prayer wheels, this stupa radiates a peaceful ambiance as monks and pilgrims circumambulate chanting prayers.

Finally, you will explore Kathmandu Durbar Square, the historical heart of the city filled with ancient palaces, temples, and courtyards. This UNESCO-listed site was once home to Nepal’s royal families and showcases exquisite Newari architecture. After a full day of exploration, you will return to your hotel to prepare for the trek ahead.

After an early breakfast, you will set off on a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Jagat, the starting point of your trek. The journey takes approximately 8-9 hours, following winding roads along the Trishuli and Marshyangdi Rivers. As you leave the Kathmandu Valley behind, the landscape gradually transforms from terraced fields to lush green hills and deep river gorges.

You will pass through bustling towns like Besisahar before continuing along a rugged, off-road trail towards Jagat. Along the way, you will catch glimpses of snow-capped peaks in the distance and experience the rural charm of Nepalese countryside life. Upon reaching Jagat, a small village perched above the Marshyangdi River, you will check into a teahouse for the night, enjoying a warm meal while soaking in the mountain atmosphere.

Your first day of trekking begins with a steady ascent through lush forests and terraced farmland. The trail follows the Marshyangdi River, crossing suspension bridges and passing charming villages where you can interact with locals and observe their traditional way of life.

As you trek through subtropical vegetation, you will gradually gain altitude, reaching the village of Chamje, where you will take a short break. Continuing onwards, the path climbs steeply towards Tal, a picturesque village situated beside a river with cascading waterfalls. Tal marks the entry into the Manang District, and you will notice a shift in the landscape, with wider valleys and towering cliffs surrounding you.

From Tal, the trail ascends and descends through pine forests and rocky pathways until you reach Dharapani, a prominent stop along the Annapurna Circuit. Here, you will settle into a cozy teahouse, enjoying a hearty meal and reflecting on the first day of trekking in the Himalayas.

After a hearty breakfast at your lodge in Dharapani, we begin the day's trek. The trail takes you through a variety of landscapes, starting with dense pine forests, traditional stone villages, and the rhythmic sound of the Marsyangdi River below. As you ascend, the views of the surrounding mountains become more dramatic, including glimpses of Lamjung Himal and Annapurna II.

The path follows the Marsyangdi River upstream, and after a few hours of trekking, you will cross the bridge at Bagarchhap, a small settlement with Tibetan-style houses. The trekking route gradually climbs and narrows, but the scenery remains breathtaking, with towering cliffs and the sound of waterfalls echoing through the valley.

After trekking for approximately 5 to 6 hours, you will reach Chame, a charming village and the administrative center of the Manang District. Chame offers magnificent views of Pisang Peak and Annapurna II. After reaching your lodge, you can relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

In the evening, enjoy a warm meal and reflect on the day's journey while preparing for the next leg of the trek.

Today’s trek offers a mix of gradual climbs and more rugged terrain as we continue to ascend towards higher altitudes. After breakfast, we begin the trek from Chame, crossing the river and following a path that winds through dense forests. Along the way, you will pass small villages like Bhratang, where you can see traditional stone houses and feel the influence of Tibetan culture.

The trail climbs steadily, and as you gain altitude, you will notice the change in vegetation as the forest becomes sparser. The majestic Pisang Peak starts dominating the skyline as you near Upper Pisang. After a trek of about 5 to 6 hours, you will arrive in Upper Pisang, a beautiful village that offers incredible views of the Annapurna Range.

Upper Pisang is quieter and more remote compared to its lower counterpart, giving trekkers the chance to experience a more peaceful and authentic side of the region. The Tibetan-style houses and monasteries here offer a glimpse into the local culture. You’ll stay in a local lodge for the night, and after a hearty meal, you can rest and acclimatize to the increasing altitude.

Today is an exciting day, as we trek from Upper Pisang to Manang, a key stop on the Annapurna Circuit and a beautiful, culturally rich village. The trail takes you through Gheru and Nawal, two small villages where you can get a closer look at local life. These villages are known for their scenic views, traditional houses, and the peaceful atmosphere that defines the Manang region.

From Upper Pisang, you will take the higher route via Nawal to Manang, which offers stunning panoramic views of the Annapurna range, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak. The trek takes about 6 to 7 hours, and although the path is steady, it offers a rewarding experience as you gain altitude and enjoy the ever-expanding mountain views.

Upon arrival in Manang, you will find a bustling village with various guesthouses, cafes, and shops. It is a great place to rest, enjoy a warm meal, and take in the incredible landscape. You may also want to visit Manang Monastery, which offers spiritual solace and an opportunity to learn about the culture of the local Tibetan Buddhist community. Spend the night at a lodge in Manang, and make sure to hydrate well and rest for the upcoming acclimatization day.

An acclimatization day is crucial for adapting to the high-altitude environment, and today you’ll take the opportunity to explore the stunning surroundings of Manang. After breakfast, you’ll have the option to take a short trek to Gangapurna Lake, a serene and picturesque spot nestled beneath the towering Gangapurna Peak. The turquoise waters of the lake provide a tranquil setting for relaxation and reflection.

For those seeking a bit more adventure, the trek to Ice Lake (approximately a 5 to 6-hour round trip) is an excellent option. The trail to Ice Lake climbs steeply, but the views of the surrounding peaks, including Annapurna III, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak, are absolutely worth the effort. The lake itself is a stunning high-altitude body of water that provides a spectacular backdrop for photos.

After your exploration, you’ll return to Manang for a well-deserved rest. You can visit the local bakery, explore the village, or simply relax and acclimatize to the altitude. Enjoy a warm dinner at your lodge and prepare for the next phase of your trek.

After a restful and acclimatization day in Manang, we continue our trek towards the high-altitude regions of the Annapurna Circuit. After breakfast, we set off from Manang and start the trek towards Yak Kharka, a small settlement located at 4,020 meters. The trail ascends steadily through a series of grassy meadows, scattered with traditional stone houses and yaks grazing on the open land.

Along the way, you will pass through Gunsang and Lagna, where you can pause to enjoy the views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The trekking trail opens up to panoramic vistas of Chulu East, Chulu West, and Gangapurna peaks.

The trek today is relatively short but essential for proper acclimatization. It will take approximately 4 to 5 hours to reach Yak Kharka. As you gain altitude, the landscape becomes more barren, and the terrain more rugged, but the towering mountains continue to offer breathtaking views.

Once at Yak Kharka, you’ll check in to your lodge, relax, and enjoy a warm meal. Yak Kharka is a quiet village with a few basic lodges. The night is spent here, preparing for the challenging day ahead.

Today, we continue our ascent towards Thorong Phedi, the base for those crossing the famous Thorong La Pass. After breakfast, the trail climbs steadily, passing through Mehta and Letdar, where you can pause to take in the stunning views of the surrounding peaks.

The trek today is relatively short but still a significant altitude gain, taking around 4 to 5 hours. The landscape is stark, with alpine meadows and rocky terrain, giving way to a sense of remoteness as we approach the high-altitude base camp. As you ascend, you’ll begin to feel the air thinning and the effects of the altitude, so take your time and maintain a steady pace.

When you reach Thorong Phedi, the high-altitude environment will feel more intense, but the surrounding vistas are awe-inspiring. The lodge here provides basic but comfortable accommodation. You will have time to relax and prepare for the next day’s major challenge: crossing Thorong La Pass. Enjoy a hearty meal, stay hydrated, and rest well as tomorrow will be one of the most memorable days of the trek.

Today is the highlight of the trek—the crossing of Thorong La Pass, one of the highest trekking passes in the world, at 5,416 meters. After an early breakfast, we begin the steep ascent towards the pass. It’s a challenging day, with a long, strenuous climb, but the spectacular views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges will keep you motivated.

The climb to the top can take anywhere from 4 to 6 hours, depending on your pace and the weather. The route is marked by prayer flags, and upon reaching the summit, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks. Take some time to enjoy the achievement and take in the beauty of the Himalayas before beginning the descent.

The descent from Thorong La Pass is long but gradual, and you’ll slowly make your way down to Muktinath, a sacred pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists. The journey down takes around 4 to 5 hours, and you will notice the landscape change as you descend to a lower altitude and the environment becomes more arid.

Once in Muktinath, you will check into your lodge and have a chance to explore the temple complex. Muktinath is famous for its 108 water spouts, which pilgrims bathe under as part of a ritual cleansing process. The temple itself is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is considered one of the holiest places in Nepal. You’ll spend the night here, enjoying a well-deserved meal after a strenuous but rewarding day.

Overnight: Muktinath

After a restful night in Muktinath, we begin the day with a morning visit to the revered Muktinath Temple, one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for both Hindus and Buddhists. Situated at 3,800 meters, this temple is believed to be a place of salvation, where devotees cleanse their sins and seek spiritual liberation. Hindus consider Muktinath to be one of the 108 Divya Desams—sacred Vishnu temples mentioned in ancient scriptures—while Buddhists regard it as a place where Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) meditated on his way to Tibet.

The main temple houses a golden statue of Lord Vishnu, while the Eternal Flame, which has been burning naturally for centuries due to underground gas, is considered miraculous. Surrounding the temple are 108 stone water spouts, shaped like cow heads, through which freezing glacial water flows. Many pilgrims take a ritual bath here, believing it brings purification and blessings. The temple complex also includes Buddhist monasteries, chortens, and prayer flags, creating a unique blend of Hindu and Buddhist traditions.

After taking in the spiritual atmosphere and breathtaking views of the Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri mountains, we begin our drive to Tatopani. This scenic journey takes approximately 5 to 6 hours, descending through the Kali Gandaki Gorge, the deepest gorge in the world. The landscape gradually shifts from the dry, windswept terrain of Mustang to lush green hills, terraced farmlands, and traditional villages along the way.

Upon arrival in Tatopani, meaning “hot water” in Nepali, you’ll immediately notice the contrast in climate—warmer temperatures and a more tropical setting compared to the high-altitude regions. This village is famous for its natural hot springs, which are believed to have healing properties, soothing sore muscles and helping trekkers recover from days of trekking. Many travelers take a dip in the steamy pools beside the river, enjoying the relaxing atmosphere.

After checking into your lodge, you can unwind in the hot springs or explore the village, where you’ll find charming tea houses, local markets, and a mix of Nepali and Tibetan cultures. In the evening, enjoy a delicious meal and a peaceful night’s rest, preparing for the next leg of your journey.

The trek from Tatopani to Ghorepani usually takes around 6 to 7 hours, depending on your pace.

When you arrive at Ghorepani, a small but vibrant village, you’ll be treated to some of the best views of the Annapurna Range. Ghorepani is known for its stunning panoramic vistas, making it one of the most popular spots for trekkers in the region. After checking into your lodge, relax and enjoy your meal. The rest of the evening is yours to rest and prepare for an early start the next day.

Today begins with an early morning departure from Ghorepani for a spectacular sunrise experience at Poon Hill (3,210m). The hike from Ghorepani to Poon Hill takes about 45 minutes to an hour. As you ascend, the crisp morning air and the anticipation of witnessing one of the most breathtaking sunrises in the Himalayas will keep you energized.

At Poon Hill, you will be greeted by panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, with peaks such as Machapuchare (Fishtail), Annapurna I, and Dhaulagiri glowing in the early morning sunlight. Spend some time soaking in the beauty, taking photos, and enjoying the view before descending back to Ghorepani for breakfast.

After breakfast, we begin our trek towards Tikhedhunga, which is located at 1,577 meters. This descent is gradual, and the path takes you through lush rhododendron forests and picturesque villages. Along the way, you’ll pass through Banthanti before continuing down to Tikhedhunga. The trail is scenic, with stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys, offering a peaceful and serene trekking experience.

After a relaxing night in Tatopani and enjoying the natural hot springs, we begin our trek towards Ghorepani, a charming village situated at 2,874 meters. After breakfast, we head out on the trail that ascends through dense rhododendron forests and terraced fields. The first part of the trek is a steady climb, with several steep sections, as we make our way towards Ghorepani.

After breakfast at Tikhedhunga, we begin our trek towards Nayapul. The trail today gradually descends, passing through charming villages and terraced fields. The scenery along the way is beautiful, with glimpses of snow-capped peaks in the distance and the lush green surroundings. The trek from Tikhedhunga to Nayapul takes about 3 to 4 hours.

Upon arrival in Nayapul, we board a private vehicle for a scenic drive to Pokhara, which takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. The journey is pleasant, offering views of rural Nepalese life, with terraced fields, rivers, and small villages along the way. As we approach Pokhara, you’ll be greeted by magnificent views of Machapuchare (Fishtail Mountain) and the peaceful waters of Phewa Lake.

Upon arrival in Pokhara, check into your hotel. After some time to freshen up, you can either relax at your hotel or take a leisurely walk around Phewa Lake. The lakeside area is a great place to explore, with numerous restaurants, cafes, and shops to enjoy. In the evening, you’ll have time to reflect on your trek and enjoy a delicious dinner in one of the local restaurants. Pokhara offers a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for winding down after your adventure.

After breakfast in Pokhara, we drive back to Kathmandu, which takes around 6 to 7 hours. The drive is scenic and offers you a chance to enjoy the rural landscapes of Nepal as you travel back to the bustling capital. You’ll pass through small towns, terraced fields, and river valleys along the way.

Once you arrive in Kathmandu, check into your hotel and take some time to freshen up. You can either relax at the hotel or venture out for last-minute shopping or sightseeing in the city. In the evening, we’ll gather for a Farewell Dinner, where you can enjoy a traditional Nepali meal and reflect on the journey. The evening will also feature a cultural program, showcasing Nepali music and dance. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate the completion of your trek and bid farewell to your fellow trekkers and guides.
